    Eric John CHAPMAN

    Eric enlisted on 10 Nov 1941 and after training at 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron, he joined the unit at Canungra, Qld, on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit as a Trooper in No 3 Section, “A” Troop for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. On the 22 Apr 1944, he was Medevac to Australia, aboard "TAROONA" and did not return to the unit. He was discharged on 22 Jan 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Henry John COLE

    Henry enlisted on 7 Nov 1940 and was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard "KOOLAMA" on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He transferred as an Instructor to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 26 Apr 1943, 18th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 15 Jun 1943 and then to 3rd Australian Reinforcement Training Battalion on 21 Oct 1943. Henry embarked for New Guinea aboard “CANBERRA” on 26 Nov 1943 and joined the 2/2nd as a Trooper in No 10 Sect on 20 Nov 1943. Sadly, Henry was listed as Missing in Action on 27 Jan 1944 at “FAITA”, New Guinea, later listed as Killed in Action. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated at LAE MEMORIAL, Panel 1, Papua New Guinea. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Mervyn Athol CLARKE

    Mervyn enlisted under the name of Harold Johnson on 3 Nov 1941 and was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. He was a member of the diversion group for the “DILI RAID” carried out by No 4 Sect on the night of May 15/16, 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942.. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Trooper aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and transferred to 42nd Infantry Battalion on 3 Sept 1943. He returned to Australia aboard “KOTA BAROE” with them on 28 May 1944. Merv declared his true name by Statuary Declaration on 3 Jul 1944. He went AWOL on 18 Sept 1944 and after a District Court Martial, he was discharged on 28 May 1946. He forfeited his campaign medals and Returned from Active Service Badge.
  4. Keith was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. On return to Australia he transferred to numerous postings within Australia. On 12 Mar 1946 he transferred to 34th Infantry Brigade and embarked for JAPAN aboard "DUNTROON", arriving at KURE on 9 Apr 1946, then transferred to 65th Australian Infantry Battalion on 10 Apr 1946. Promoted Acting Corporal on 12 May 1947 and Corporal on 10 Oct 1947. He returned to Australia and was discharged 16 Aug 1948. He enlisted into Regular Army Special Reserve on 17 Aug 1948 with service number 80448. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "JAPAN".
  5. William was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as an Acting Corporal and was promoted to Corporal on 16 Nov 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization William embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Corporal in the Transport Section, Headquarters Group, as the unit had no transport, the Transport Section was used as another fighting section. William was promoted to Sergeant on 15 Jan 1944 and returned to Australia with the unit aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After further leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Sergeant. He left the unit and returned to Australia on 13 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 2 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".

    Noel was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA” on 22 Nov 1943 as a Trooper and re-joined the unit on 28 Nov 1943, possibly served in No 4 Section, “B” Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. Noel returned to Australia on the 13 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 25 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
  8. James enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserve) with service number N107131 on 21 Mar 1941 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 24 Oct 1941 whilst serving in Darwin. He was posted to 2/3rd Pioneer Battalion on the same day and transferred to Headquarters, Sparrow Force on 12 Feb 1942 for service on Timor. James joined the unit on Timor from Headquarters, Sparrow Force, as a Private, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. Later he was part of "H" Force, 2 Officers and eleven other ranks, which, in Jul 1942, was detailed to patrol the east end of Timor and protect the Northern Flank of the unit from a surprize attack from the Japanese and also to procure supplies from this productive area. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was transferred to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron, as an Instructor on 14 Apr 1943 and was discharged on 18 Oct 1944. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  9. Stanley enlisted into the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 8 Jan 1939 and was posted to 7th Light Horse Regiment with service number N4545. He transferred to the Australian Infantry Force on 24 Sept 1941 and was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard “KOOLAMA”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private and was a member of the diversion group for the “DILI RAID”. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to the Allied Geographical Section on 16 Jun 1943 and promoted Acting Corporal on 18 Oct 1943 and Corporal on 7 Apr 1944. He flew to Hollandia on 15 Feb 1945, the to Leyte, Philippines on 19 Feb 1945. Returned to Hollandia by plane on 29 Feb 1945 and flew back to Australia on 24 Feb 1945. He flew to Manila on 18 Jul 1945, was promoted to Sergeant on 21 Sept 1945 and flew back to Australia on 28 Sept 1945. He was discharged on 9 May 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  10. Henry was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Corporal in “Q” Staff, Headquarters Group. He was promoted Staff Sergeant on 1 Mar 1942 and after the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Staff Sergeant in “Q” Staff, Headquarters Group, aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After further leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as the Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant in “Q” Staff, Headquarters Group. He returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 10 Oct 1945.     Arthur Joseph BIRCH

    Arthur enlisted on 11 July 1940 and posted to 9th Battalion. He transferred to Artillery Training Depot on 31 Aug 1940, then to 1st Medium Training Battery, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) on 17 Sept 1940. After training he was posted to 2/13th Army Field Battery, RAA, on 12 Jan 1941 and embarked for the Middle East on 1 Sept 1941. He transferred to 2/1st Medium Regiment, RAA, 2 Nov 1942 and returned to Australia with them aboard "WEST POINT" on 31 Mar 1942. Arthur was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 25 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 2 Sect, “A” Troop and was Wounded in Action on 21 Oct 1943 on a patrol into the RAMU VALLEY. He was medivac to hospital and re-joined the 2/2nd on 24 Jan 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 2 Sect, “A” Troop. He transferred to Australian Army Service Corps on 7 Jul 1945 and returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945. He was discharged on 16 Oct 1945. He was medevac'd from Timor on 25 May 1942 aboard "KURU". He was appointed Lance Corporal and posted to 1st Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 3 Dec 1942., then to Jungle Training Centre on 25 May 1943 and 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on9 Jun 1943. He embarked for New Guinea as a Lance Corporal aboard "CANBERRA" and re-joined the 2/2nd on 18 Oct 1943, serving in No 9 Sect, “C” Troop. He was accidently wounded on 5 Nov 1943 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 26 Dec 1943. Harold returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 25 Jan 1945 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Lance Corporal in No 9 Sect, “C” Troop. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 22 Apr 1945 and confirmed Corporal on 22 Jul 1945. He returned to Australia on 14 Feb 1946 and was discharged on 6 Mar 1946.     Joseph enlisted on 15 Sept 1941 and after training was posted to 3rd Australian Independent Company (3 AIC) on 27 Nov 1941. He embarked for New Caledonia aboard "ORMISTON" on 17 Dec 1941 and returned to Australia aboard "WEST CACTUS" on 8 Aug 1942. He embarked with the 3 AIC for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 16 May 1943 as a Trooper. He joined the 2/2nd as a Trooper in No 1 Sect, “A” Troop on 10 Jan 1944 and returned to Australia by plane on 1 Aug 1944. He re-joined the 2/2nd on 26 Oct 1944 and transferred to Australian Army Service Corps as a Cook Grade 2 on 5 Jan 1945. He re-joined the 2/2nd on 5 Apr 1945 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 1 Sect, “A” Troop. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 16 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 8 Jan 1946.   14. Geoffrey enlisted on 11 Aug 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps on the same day. He embarked for the Middle East on 1 Nov 1941 and was posted to 1st Australian Corps Transport Petrol Company on 23 Jan 1942. He returned to Australia on 17 Mar 1924 and transferred to Australian Independent Parachute Company on 30 Jan 1943. He attended 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 15 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper. Transferred to New Guinea Infantry on 1 May 1944 and was promoted Acting Lance Sergeant on 11 May 1944 and Sergeant confirmed 6 Jul 1944. He returned to the 2/2nd and reverted to Trooper on 12 Aug 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. Sadly, he accidently drowned on service, 6 May 1945, New Britain.     Milton enlisted on 9 Sept 1941 and was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard "KOOLAMA", on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He transferred as an instructor to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 19 Apr 1943 and then to 29th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 28 Apr 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KAROOMBA" on 22 Nov 1943 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 28 Nov 1943 as a Trooper. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He transferred to 1st Australian Recruit Training Battalion (Jungle Warfare) on 20 Apr 1945 and was discharged on 12 Apr 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

Georges enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) with Service Number N109074 on 19 Apr 1941, he was a Dutch Citizen, had served in the Dutch Artillery, occupation was Commercial Traveller and his Next of Kin was the Consul General for the Netherlands, address Kembla House Kembla St, Sydney. He was posted to 16th Garrison Battalion. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 8 Aug 1941 and on his attestation paper is a note referring to Correspondence from the Dutch Consul, his occupation had changed to a Journalist. He was posted to Special Operations Section, Intelligence Corps on 7 Nov 1941. He was promoted to Acting Sergeant on 14 Nov 1941 and was attached to 2/40th Battalion on 27 Nov 1941. He embarked for Timor with the 2/40th on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Sergeant from Intelligence Corps, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. We have an original embarkation roll from “Betano” for Darwin aboard the “KURU” for him on 8 Jul 1942 as a Sergeant Intelligence Corps. His service papers only cover up to embarking from Australia and then some notes on his discharge from the A.I.F. on 9 Mar 1943. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Douglas enlisted on 4 Aug 1941and appointed Acting Lance Corporal on 16 Sept 1941 and embarked for the Middle East with 2/1st Battalion on 2 Nov 1941. He reverted to Private and transferred to 1st Australian Corps on 23 Dec 1941, returned to Australia aboard "WEST POINT" on 31 Mar 1942. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "SEA WITCH" on 26 Aug 1942 and returned to Australia on 11 Jan 1943. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 22 Jun 1943 and embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 11 Nov 1943, joining the 2/2nd on 28 Nov 1943 as a Trooper in No 1 Sect, “A” Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. . He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 25 Jan 1945 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 1 Sect, “A” Troop. Whilst on New Britain he attended Course No 5, Flame Thrower School from 5 Jul to 9 Jul 1945. He returned to Australia on 5 Apr 1946 and was discharged on 16 Apr 1946.   18. Reginald enlisted on 4 Aug 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Sparrow. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 7 Aug 1941 and embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941. He joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Corporal from AASC, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He was one of the Koepang men selected for commando training at Mape and formed the new "D" Platoon under Lt Turton then Lt Doig. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. he transferred to 2nd AASC Training Depot on 15 Jun 1943, he reverted to Private on 18 Sept 1943 and was discharge on 6 Mar 1944.     Johnny FREEMAN

    Johnny (Curly) was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dilli, Timor, aboard M.V. “KOOLAMA”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private and served in No 4 Sect, “B” Platoon. He returned to Australia on 16 Aug 1942. See below. He was discharged on 9 Apr 1946. Extracted from C D Doig’s “A History of the 2nd Independent Company and 2/2 Commando Squadron”. After the Japanese landed, there was a party of 4 of these first reinforcement men, who had not been attached to any of the Sections, who decided to try and get back to Australia by boat and advise that the 2nd Independent Company was still intact and fighting on. The party consisted of Privates, Robert Sydney Larney, Johnny Freeman, Desmond Laurence Lilya and Arnold Samuel Webb. They eventually reached Darwin and then embarked with the No 4 Independent Company for Timor aboard H.M.A.S “VOYAGER” on 22 Sept 1942. The men’s service papers state the following Robert Sydney Larney He was in 119th Australian General Hospital, Darwin from 11 Sept – 17 Sept 1942 and disembarked at Darwin from Timor on 16 Dec 1942. Johnny Freeman Disembarked at Darwin on 16 Aug 1942, He was in 119th Australian General Hospital, Darwin from 25 Aug – 8 Sept 1942. Desmond Laurence Lilya Disembarked at Darwin on 16 Aug 1942, He was in 119th Australian General Hospital from 16 Aug – 17 Sept 1942. Research shows he returned from Timor with the unit either 11 Dec 1942 or 16 Dec 1942, as the embarkation rolls do not differentiate. Arnold Samuel Webb Now reported “Returned to Australia” No Date, Disembarked at Darwin from Timor on 16 Dec 1942. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Clarence enlisted on 3 Jun 1940 with Service No NX19765 and on his attestation he stated 5 years prior service. He was posted to 1st Battalion and promoted Acting Sergeant on 3 Jun 1940. He transferred to Head Quarters, 27th Infantry Brigade on 18 Dec 1940 and reverted to Private same day. He was discharged 4 Feb 1941. Clarence re-enlisted on 28 Jul 1941 with Service No NX39990 and posted to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Section SPARROW on 30 Jul 1941, he was Appointed Acting Staff Sergeant same day. He was posted to Darwin on 29 Aug 1941 and as his occupation was Butcher, he was detached to 2nd Field Butchery for the period 8 Sept - 18 Oct 1941. He was confirmed Staff Sergeant on 30 Oct 1941 and embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941. He joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Staff Sergeant from AASC, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He embarked aboard "KURU" from "Suai" on 15 Jul 1942 and was medevac'd to NSW. Transferred to AASC Training Depot on 16 Sept 1942. After numerous medical Treatment, he was discharges on 4 May 1944 as a Staff Sergeant. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  21. Norman was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private in No 6 Section, “B” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He transferred as an Instructor to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 19 Apr 1943, then to 29th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 27 Apr 1943. He embarked aboard "KATOOMBA" for New Guinea on 22 Nov 1943 and re-joined the unit on 28 Nov 1943 as a Trooper in No 2 Section, “A” Troop and he left the unit on 3 May 1944 and was Medevac to Australia on 16 Jun 1944.   22. Lionel enlisted into Citizens Military Force (Reserve) Mar 1940 and served 1year 135 days with 5th Heavy Battery, Royal Aust Artillery (RAA) before transferring to the A.I.F. on 22 Jul 1941. He was posted to 2/1st Heavy Battery, RAA on 24 Jul 1941 and was posted to Darwin on 7 Aug 1941. He proceeded overseas with his unit to Timor on 8 Dec 1941. Lionel joined the unit on Timor as a Gunner from 2/1st Heavy Battery, RAA, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He embarked at “SUAI” for Darwin aboard the “KURU” on 17 Jul 1942 as a Gunner. After medical treatment he was posted to Coastal Artillery, Sydney on 31 Mar 1944 and was discharged on 13 Nov 1945.   23. Walter enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 9 Jul 1940 and posted to 2nd Armoured Division Regiment. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 7 Jul 1941 and posted to 2/1st Fortress Signals, he was promoted Acting Corporal Cook on 27 Jul 1941. He was confirmed Corporal on 27 Jul 1941 and embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941. He joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Corporal from 2/1 Fortress Signals, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and on 8 May 1942, they were formed into a new Platoon, “D” Platoon under the command of Lieutenant Turton and later under Lt Doig. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to 2nd Field Bakery on 19 Mar 1943 and was discharged on 5 Jan 1944. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

Rodger enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserves) on 7 Aug 1940 and served with 22nd Anti Aircraft Company then 33rd Australian Fortress Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) before transferring to the A.I.F. on 15 Jul 1941. he transferred to 2/1st Fortress Company, RAE on 17 Jul 1941. He joined the unit on Timor as a Sapper from 2/1st Field Company, RAE, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to 1st Fortress Company on 1 May 1943 and then to 2/4th Fortress Company on 11 Aug 1944. He was discharges on 26 Feb 1945.     Ralph Gordon CONLEY

    Ralph enlisted on 14 Jul 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Staff Sergeant from 2/1st Australian Fortress Company, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He served in "D" Platoon as the Quartermaster Sergeant. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on either 11 Dec 1942 or 16 Dec 1942, as the embarkation rolls do not differentiate. On return to Australia, it is believed that he stayed with 2/1st Australian Fortress Company, was promoted to Lieutenant Jul 1943. He was discharged on 6 Nov 1945. His entry on the WW2 Nominal Roll has a Service No 110315 which generally denotes post WW2 service. His service papers will not be available for sometime. He joined Trans Australian Airlines and held management positions in Queensland, South Australia and Northern Australia. In 1966 he was posted to New Guinea and assisted in forming a national airline, returned to Australia in 1976 and retired in 1983. Ralph was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) "For service to the aviation industry" on 8th of June, 1981, Queens Birthday List.
