    Len enlisted on 12 Jul 1940 and after training was posted to No 1 Australian Independent Company on 10 May 1941. He embarked with them for New Guinea as a Private aboard "ZEALANDIA" on 12 Jul 1941. He returned to Australia on 3 Jun 1942 and transferred to 16th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 4 Jan 1943, then to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 1 Mar 1943. He was promoted Corporal on 15 May 1943 and joined the 2/2nd same day. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Corporal aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 2 Feb 1945 and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Lance Sergeant in Ordnance Sect of Headquarters Group.

    Len returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 23 Oct 1945.

    He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
