Alan DIXON

Alan enlisted on 23 Jul 1940 and was drafted into 2/17th Infantry Battalion. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 24 Sept 1940 and embarked with them for the Middle East aboard HMT OX on 19 Oct 1940. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 29 Nov 1941 and returned to Australia aboard MT SS "WEST POINT" on 31 Mar 1942. Promoted Acting Sergeant on 11 Jul 1942 and transferred to C P Office, 2nd Australian Army on 28 Jul 1942. He was promoted Staff Sergeant on 28 Sept 1942.

He transferred to the unit and reverted to Sergeant at his own request on 19 Dec 1942 and after leave and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Sergeant in Headquarters Group aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. Alan transferred to 1st Australian Corps on 25 Mar 1944 and returned to Australia aboard “TAROONA” on 2 Apr 1944.

He transferred to Headquarters, 2nd Beach Group on 12 Oct 1944 and embarked aboard "SEA BARB" for MOROTAI on 12 Apr 1945, then embarked for TARARKAN on 22 Apr 1945 and returned to MOROTAI aboard Landing Ship Troops (LST) 1035 on 18 May 1945. he then embarked aboard "WESTRALIA" for BALIKPAPON on 21 Jun 1945.

Alan returned to MOROTAI aboard "J. J. CORBETT" on 15 Sept 1945 and returned to Australia aboard "WESTRALIA" on 16 Oct 1945.

He was discharged on 24 Jan 1946.

He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He may now also be entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
