His service papers has his name as Edward Falcon Barker but the World War 2 nominal roll only has Falcon
Falcon embarked from Sydney for the Middle East on 27 Jun 1941, arriving 31 Jul 1941 and was taken on the strength of 2.1st Infantry Battalion on 8 Sept 1941. He embarked from the Middle East for Ceylon on 27 Mar 1942 and transferred to Headquarters (AIF) Ceylon on 5 Apr 1942 and returned to Australia on 4 Aug 1942. He was promoted to Corporal on 10 Sept 1942 and transferred to 6th Australian Division Intelligence Section on 12 Sept 1942 and embarked for New Guinea on 2 Nov 1942. Promoted to Sergeant on 5 Jan 1943 and returned to Australia on 9 Feb 1943.
Falcon transferred to 2/6th Australian Independent Company on 26 Jul 1943 and reverted to Private at own request. He embarked with them for New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" on 31 Jul 1943. He transferred to the unit on 21 Jun 1944 on New Guinea as a Trooper and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944.
He embarked for New Britain aboard "ORMISTON” on 6 Sept 1945 and re-joined the unit as a Trooper on 8 Sept 1945. He transferred out of the unit on 9 Nov 1945 and joined the 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 13 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia on 16 Jun 1946, where he was discharged on 25 Jun 1946.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
