    Alan John DONOVAN

    Alan enlisted on 14 Jul 1941, he had previous service as a signaller with 2nd Division Signals and was posted to 2/1st Fortress Signals. He was appointed Acting Lance Corporal on 14 Aug 1941 and embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941. He joined the 2/2nd on Timor from 2/1 Fortress Signals, as a Lance Corporal, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He was promoted Corporal on 15 Aug 1941. Alan was a member of the team that built “Winnie The War Winner”. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was posted to Radio Philips Depot, Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (AEME) on 28 Jun 1043 and then attended No 20 Radio Mechanics Course on 28 Aug 1943. After training he was posted to 18th Radio Maintenance Section on 3 Dec 1943 and was promoted Acting Sergeant on 17 Jan 1944. He transferred to Land Headquarters, AEME on 25 May 1944, attended No 11 Armament Artificers Radar Course 16 Jul 1944 and qualified with Distinction on 14 Oct 1944. He attended numerous Radar and Telecommunication Courses. He was confirmed Sergeant on 21 Mar 1946 and promoted Acting Warrant Officer Class II (WO II) same day. WO II was confirmed on 2 May 1946 and he transferred to Services Training Centre Area Workshop on 13 May 1946. He was discharged on 5 Jul 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  2. Samuel enlisted on 18 Jul 1940 under the name Samuel Sydney with Service No QX11144. He was posted to Machine Gun Training Company on 1 Nov 1940 and transferred to 2/26th Infantry Battalion on 20 Mar 1941. He then went AWOL on 6 Jul 1941. He next enlisted on 7 Jul 1941, as Samuel Roy Fullbrook with Service No NX38200 and was posted to 2/13th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) on23 Aug 1941. He embarked for the Middle East on1 Sept 1941, transferred to 2/1st Medium Regiment, RAA. He returned to Australia aboard "WEST POINT" on 31 Mar 1942. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 15 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Trooper in No 4 sect, “B” Troop aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 4 sect, “B” Troop. He returned to Australia aboard "KANIMBLA" on 4 Oct 1945 and was discharged on 22 Oct 1945.     David James CAMERON

    David enlisted on 18 Jun 1940 and was posted to Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) Training Depot on 29 Oct 1940. He transferred to 2/12th Field Ambulance AAMC, on 22 Nov 1940 and appointed Nursing Orderly on 17 Jan 1942. He embarked with the 2/12th on 17 Jan 1942 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Private from 2/12th Field Ambulance, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He embarked at “Betano” for Darwin aboard the “KURU” on 2 Sept 1942 as a Private. David was posted to AAMC Training Depot as an instructor on 24 Oct 1942 and then back to 2/12th Field Ambulance on 8 May 1943. He was discharged on 12 May 1944. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    John GREIG

    John joined the unit on Timor as a Staff Sergeant from Aust Army Service Corps, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and on 8 May 1942, they were formed into a new Platoon, “D” Platoon under the command of Lieutenant Turton and later under Lt Doig. He embarked for Darwin on 29 Jul 1942. His discharged date from the A.I.F. is unknown. He served with the Australian Regular Army until 3 Mar 1955 with service No 245066 which included British Occupation Forces in Japan.
  5. Max enlisted on 5 Jun 1940 and posted to 2/1st Australian Medium Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA). He transferred to 2/13th Australian Field Regiment on 15 Oct 1940 and moved to Darwin with then on 25 Apr 1941, returning to Sydney on 2 Aug 1942. He embarked for Middle East on 1 Sept 1941 and transferred to 2/1st Australian Medium Regiment on 18 Oct 1941. He returned to Australia aboard "WEST POINT" on 31 Mar 1942. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 25 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 16 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Lance Corporal in No 8 Sect, “C” Troop and was appointed paid Lance Corporal on 1 Jul 1943 and Corporal on 15 Apt 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He was discharged on 21 Mar 1945.     Alexander enlisted on 4 Jun 1941 and embarked for the Middle East on 1 Sept 1941 as a reinforcement. He was posted to 2/1st Medium Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) and returned to Australia aboard "WEST POINT" on 31 Mar 1942, He transferred to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 25 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Trooper in No 4 Sect, “B” Troop, aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944.     Stanley John DOWMAN

    Stanley enlisted on 6 Jun 1940 and posted to Australian Army Service Corps. He was transferred to 8th Division, Supply Column, Australian Army Service Corps on 5 Aug 1940 and was promoted to Acting Sergeant on 5 Dec 1940. On 20 May 1941 transferred to Headquarters, 8th Division, Australian Army Service Corps on 20 May 1041 as a Sergeant. He embarked for Timor aboard M.V. "RUYS" on 6 Jun 1941 as part of the advance party for “SPARROW FORCE” as the Australian Army Service Corps Sergeant, in charge of all stores for the Timor operations. He was appointed Lieutenant on 22 Aug 1941 and was wounded during one of the Japanese Air Raids prior to their land at Koepang and was in hospital when they landed. He joined the unit on Timor, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942 and was in charge of all stores arriving from Australia. He embarked for Australia on 22 Aug 1942. Stanley was posted to 2/103rd Australian General Transport Company, Australian Army Service Corps on 4 Mar 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 31 Oct 1943 and enplaned for Australia on 3 Mar 1944. He transferred to 2/126th Australian General Transport Company, Australian Army Service Corps on 22 Mar 1944 and was promoted to Captain on 23 May 1944. He enplaned to New Guinea on 18 Jun 1944 and was appointed Officer Commanding 126th Workshop Platoon on 1 Mar 1945 and transferred to 151st Australian Workshop Platoon on 14 Jun 1945. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 9 Aug 1945 and transferred to 146th Australian Workshop Platoon on 3 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 18 Mar 1947. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  8. Henry enlisted on 27 May 1940 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Acting Corporal in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. He was Killed in Action, 20 Feb 1942, when the Ration Truck was captured, during the first landing of the Japanese on Timor. He is buried at AMBON WAR CEMETERY Plot 19. Row C. Grave 15. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below

William enlisted on 28 May 1940 and posted to 2/1st Medium Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA), this was re-designated 2/13th Army Field Regiment on 15 Oct 1940 and he embarked with them for the Middle East on 1 Sept 1941.     Desmond FALLON

    Desmond enlisted on 27 May 1940 and posted to 2/13th Army Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery on 15 Oct 1940. He was promoted Acting Bombardier on 24 Oct 1940 and Acting Lance Sergeant on 17 Jan 1941. He reverted to Gunner on 20 May 1941 and embarked for the Middle East aboard "HMT H.H." on 1 Sept 1941. He transferred to 2/1st Australian Medium Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, on 20 Nov 1941. He returned to Australia aboard "DURBAN CASTLE" on 17 Mar 1942. After training at 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron he joined the unit on 15 May 1943 and embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Signalman in Signals Section, Headquarters Group aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. The Signallers were dispersed throughout the unit in New Guinea and Des served with “B” Troop. He returned to Australia with the unit aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. Sadly he passed away on 20 Oct 1944 and is buried at GOULBURN GENERAL CEMETERY, Plot G. Row A. Grave 13.     Cyril Henry BEAVIS

    Cyril enlisted May 1940 and served with 2/13th Medium Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. He embarked for Ocean Island (4,000kms North of Sydney) as part of “Heron Force” on 26 Jan 1941 and returned to Australia aboard "WESTRALIA" on 5 Sept 1941, then embarked for the Middle East with 2/13th Medium Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery aboard HMT "KK" on 1 Nov 1941 and returned to Australia aboard "U.S.S. WEST PIONT" on 31 Mar 1942. He trained at 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron and joined the unit on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. He was appointed Lance Sergeant and transferred to New Guinea Infantry Battalion on 3 Jul 1944 and promoted Sergeant on 3 Oct 1944. Cyril emplaned for Australia on 11 Nov 1944 and was discharged on 13 Oct 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

Francis enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserves) on 23 Dec 1941 and posted to 13 Australian Company, Australian Army Service Corps, 1st Australian Division on 9 Jul 1942 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 10 Jul 1942. He was posted to the Guerrilla Warfare School (Commando Training) at Foster, Victoria on 28 Sept 1942 and promoted Acting Corporal on 28 Dec 1942. Reverted to Private at his own request on 28 Jan 1943. After Commando training, Francis embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 17 Feb 1943 and joined the unit on 25 Jun 1943 at Shrapnel Valley, New Guinea, served as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 7 Section, “C” Troop. He was Medevac to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 12 Apr 1944 and returned to New Guinea aboard "ORMISTON" on 6 Jul 1944, re-joining the unit on 8 Jul 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a paid Lance Corporal in No 7 Section, "C" Troop. He transferred out of the unit on 26 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia on 4 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 9 Jun 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Roy enlisted on 19 May 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps, Sparrow Force on 29 Jul 1941. He joined the unit on Timor as a private from Australian Army Service Corps, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. Late in Mar 1942, he was part of Lt Doig's No 13 Section, comprising men, from the Koepang end of Timor, that were stationed at Maliana to patrol the boarder area. He later attended a special training course at “Sinaro” and served as a Tommy Gunner with Lt Rodd and Lt Green’s Sect’s. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He was discharged on 20 Jun 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Philip enlisted on 15 May 1941 and posted to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Training Depot, he was posted to AASC Section Sparrow on 29 Jul 1941 and appointed Lance Corporal on 6 Oct 1941. he embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and Promoted Acting Corporal on 13 Feb 1942. He joined the unit on Timor as a Corporal from AASC, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to AASC training Depot as an Instructor on 30 Mar 1943 and then to 160th Australian General Transport Company on 14 Sept 1943. He was discharged on 27 Sept 1945. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a driver from the AASC. after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942.     Ernest Harry GREGG

    Ernest enlisted 7 Nov 1939 and was posted to 6th Division Signals and embarked from Sydney aboard HT XI on 4 May 1940 and disembarked at Gourock, Scotland on 17 Jun 1940. He transferred to Force Signals on 26 Jun 1940, was promoted to Acting Corporal on 5 Nov 1940 and after numerous postings in the UK, he embarked from Liverpool, UK, aboard H.M.T. L10 on 14 Nov 1940 and disembarked in the Middle East on 29 Dec 1940. He transferred to Signals 6th Division on 19 Mar 1941. He returned to Australia on 16 Mar 1942 and his rank of Corporal was confirmed on 22 Feb 1943. His service papers have no mention of him going to or returning from TIMOR, but the 2/2 Commando nominal roll has him as joining the unit on Timor as a Corporal in the Signals and Cypher Unit sent from Australia after contact was made with “WINNIE THE WAR WINNER”. There is no date of him leaving the unit, as some of the early embarkation rolls from Timor are missing. On 15 Jul 1943 his service papers state he embarked from Melbourne on 15 Jul 1943 and disembarking at Port Moresby, New Guinea, on 27 Jul 1943. He is promoted to Acting Sergeant on 26 Apr 1944 and embarks from Lae, New Guinea, aboard "DUNTROON" on 15 May 1944 and disembarking at Townsville on 20 May 1944. He transfers to "Z" Special Unit on 6 Aug 1944 and departed for service outside Australia ("Z" Special members never have where they are going when they leave Australia) on 20 Aug 1944 and is reported MISSING on 21 Aug 1944. On 18 Mar 1946, he is reported as Killed in Action on 22 Aug 1944. His body was exhumed from Koepang War Cemetery and reburied at Galala War Cemetery, Ambon, Indonesia on 22 Jul 1946 in Plot 19.     Cecil enlisted on 8 May 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps, Sparrow Force. He joined the unit as a Private on Timor from Australian Army Service Corps, Sparrow Force, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He transferred to 160th Australian General Transport Company on 19 Oct 1943 and to 2/105th Australian Transport Platoon on 19 Sept 1945. He was discharged on 9 Nov 1945.     Arnold enlisted on 5 Apr 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps, Sparrow Force on 29 Jul 1941. Arnold joined the unit on Timor as a Private from Australian Army Service Corps, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He flew from HOLLANDIA to MEDANG, New Guinea on 8 Mar 1945 and embarked for MOROTAI aboard "GORGON" on 17 Mar 1945, transferring to 2/11th Field Company on 21 Apr 1945. He suffered very serious burns on 5 May 1945 and was Medevac to Australia, aboard "MANUNDA" on 16 Jun 1945 and after treatment, he was discharged on 20 Nov 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

He left the unit on 13 Jan 1943 and transferred to Signals Recruit Training Battalion on 6 Jul 1943 and then to Signals Training Battalion on 21 Aug 1943. He was discharged on 30 Aug 1945.     Herbert enlisted on 21 Apr 1941 and posted to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Training Depot. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 23 May 1941 and promoted Acting Corporal on 20 Jun 1941. He was posted to AASC Section, Sparrow Force on 29 Jul 1941 and appointed Lance Corporal on 8 Sept 1941, his rank of Corporal was confirmed on 29 Oct 1941 but he still would be a Lance Sergeant. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Lance Sergeant from AASC, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He returned to Australia on 22 Aug 1942. He was posted to 1st AASC Training Battalion as an instructor on 13 Sept 1943 and then to 1st Australian Base Ammunition Depot, Australian Army Ordnance Corps, on 12 Dec 1943. He was promoted to Sergeant on 7 Mar 1944 and was discharged 18 Dec 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Joseph Milton DEAN

    Joseph enlisted on 1 Apr 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Ordnance Corp and was attached to 2/40th Battalion. He joined the unit on Timor as a Private from the Australian Army Ordnance Corp, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was discharged on 22 Sept 1943. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    William Ernest HOY

    William joined the Militia with Service No N437274 on 2 Oct 1942 and posted to 2nd Artillery Training Regiment on 10 Oct 1942. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" on 16 May 1943. He transferred from the Militia to the A.I.F. and posted to 14th Australian Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery on 1 Jun 1943. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 5 Feb 1944. On 28 Jul 1944 he attended 1st Australian Infantry Training Brigade and then to 32nd Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 8 Aug 1944. He was then posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 27 Nov 1944 and after training joined the unit as a Trooper on 31 Jan 1945. After leave, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 8 Section, “C” Troop. He left the unit on 26 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia on 16 Jun 1946 and was discharged on 20 Jun 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
