    Norman was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private in No 6 Section, “B” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He transferred as an Instructor to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 19 Apr 1943, then to 29th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 27 Apr 1943.

    He embarked aboard "KATOOMBA" for New Guinea on 22 Nov 1943 and re-joined the unit on 28 Nov 1943 as a Trooper in No 2 Section, “A” Troop and he left the unit on 3 May 1944 and was Medevac to Australia on 16 Jun 1944. He joined 3rd Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot on 1 Jan 1945 and was discharged 17 Nov 1945.

    He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
