    Clarence enlisted on 3 Jun 1940 with Service No NX19765 and on his attestation he stated 5 years prior service. He was posted to 1st Battalion and promoted Acting Sergeant on 3 Jun 1940. He transferred to Head Quarters, 27th Infantry Brigade on 18 Dec 1940 and reverted to Private same day. He was discharged 4 Feb 1941.

    Clarence re-enlisted on 28 Jul 1941 with Service No NX39990 and posted to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Section SPARROW on 30 Jul 1941, he was Appointed Acting Staff Sergeant same day. He was posted to Darwin on 29 Aug 1941 and as his occupation was Butcher, he was detached to 2nd Field Butchery for the period 8 Sept - 18 Oct 1941. He was confirmed Staff Sergeant on 30 Oct 1941 and embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941.

    He joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Staff Sergeant from AASC, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He embarked aboard "KURU" from "Suai" on 15 Jul 1942 and was medevac'd to NSW. Transferred to AASC Training Depot on 16 Sept 1942.

    After numerous medical Treatment, he was discharges on 4 May 1944 as a Staff Sergeant.

    He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
