    Colin MCKENZIE

    Colin enlisted on 23 Sept 1940 and posted to 75th Light Aid Detachment (LAD). He embarked for Timor on 17 Jan 1942 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Private, from 75th LAD, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and on 8 May 1942, they were formed into a new Platoon, “D” Platoon under the command of Lieutenant Turton and later under Lt Doig. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to 106th LAD on 127 Feb 1943, then 77th Anti Aircraft Workshop on 11 Jun 1943 and embarked for New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" on 27 Sept 1943 and returned to Australia aboard "CAPE MENDOCINO" on 16 Jun 1944. He transferred to 2/1st Australian Composite Anti Aircraft Regiment Workshop on 27 Dec 1944 and embarked for Morotai on 21 May 1945 and then embarked for Balikpapan aboard Landing Ship Troops 1016 on 9 Jul 1945.     Archibald MACRURY

    Archibald enlisted in Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 4 Jun 1940 with Service No N84495 and was posted to Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC), Dental Details and promoted Corporal on 15 Jul 1940. He was posted to Southern Command Dental Unit on 18 Nov 1940 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 6 Feb 1941and posted to Recruit Training Camp on 10 Feb 1941. He transferred to 22nd Australian Dental Unit (ADU) on 11 Feb 1941 and promoted Corporal same day. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor from 22nd ADU, as a Corporal, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He returned to Australia aboard "MANCHURIA" on 9 Sept 1945 and transferred to 78th ADU on 3 Sept 1945. He Transferred to 89th ADU on 13 Nov 1945 and flew to Morotai on 17 Nov 1945. He embarked for Kure, Japan aboard "STAMFORD VICTORY" on 27 Feb 1946 and returned to Australia aboard "KANIMBLA" on 16 Dec 1946. He returned to Japan aboard "MANOORA" on 26 Mar 1947. Archibald returned to Australia aboard "DUNTROON" on 5 Mar 1949 and was discharged 29 Mar 1949. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with clasps.
  3. Leon was a member of 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion with service No 5 / 46 when he transferred to the A.I.F on 16 Sept 1942. He was posted to Australian Armoured Training Battalion on 24 Sept 1942, attended an Intelligence Course (&th Australian Special Company) 30 Nov 1942 to 29 Dec 1942. He was appointed Acting Bombardier on13 Jan 1943 and was posted to 1st Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 25 Feb 1943, reverting to Private same day. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 8 Jun 1943 and was posted to 1st Australian Recruit Training Battalion on 26 Jun 1943. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 17 Nov 1943 and revert to Private on 19 Nov 1943. He flew to New Guinea on 23 Dec 1943 and joined the 2/2nd as a Trooper on 13 Mar 1944. Leon transferred to New Guinea Infantry Battalion on 28 Jun 1944 and appointed Acting Lance Sergeant on same day. He was promoted Sergeant on 3 Aug 1944 and embarked for Bouganville aboard "JAMES OLIVER" on 21 Nov 1944. He joined "A" Company, 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion on 24 Nov 1944 and was wounded in action on 8 Feb 1945, returning to 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion on 2 Mar 1945. He was promoted Lieutenant on 16 May 1945 and embarked for New Britain on 2 Jun 1945 then embarked for Mototai on 8 Jun 1945. He flew to Australia on 8 Dec and flew back to New Britain on 11 Dec 1945. He returned to Australia aboard "MANUNDA" on 19 May 1946 and was discharged on 8 Aug 1946. Leon was Mentioned in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the South West Pacific London Gazette 14 Feb 1946 and Commonwealth of Australia Gazette 34, 21 Feb 1946.     Ian Gavin MCPHEE

    Ian enlisted on 14 Feb 1944 as a Captain in the Australian Army Medical Corps and after training was posted to the 2/2nd on 14 Nov 1944 as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO). He joined the unit at Strathpine, Qld, as the Medical Officer and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Captain, Officer Commanding the R.A.M.C. Section, Headquarters Group. He was posted to 2nd Field Ambulance on 7 Jan 1946 and flew to Australia on 8 Feb 1946 and then to 112nd Base Military Hospital on 8 Mar 1946. Ian was discharged on 21 Jun 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Angus MACLAUCHLAN

    Angus was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 4 Section, “B” Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After further leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. Angus transferred to2/3rd Railway Construction Company on 23 Apr 1945, he embarked for Australia aboard “WESTRALIA” on 8 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 19 Dec 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Alan George MUNRO

    Alan enlisted on 14 Jan 1942 in Citizens Military Force (Reserves) with Service No V340584 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 11 Feb 1943 and after signals training was posted to 1st Australian Armoured Corps Training Regiment on15 Apr 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard “GORGON” on 7 Jan 1944 and joined the 2/2nd as a Signaller in Signals Section, Headquarters Group on 24 Jan 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Signaller. He returned to Australia on 16 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 11 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.   9. Edward enlisted on 10 May 1940 and was posted to 2/8th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. He was promoted to Acting Bombardier on 25 Jul 1940 and embarked for the Middle East on 16 Nov 1940. Conformed Bombardier on 2 Dec 1940 and returned to Australia on 28 Jun 1942. Posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 1 Mar 1943, revert to Private at own request on 31 Mar 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He was appointed Lance Corpora on 6 Jun 1943 and embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Lance Corporal in No 9 Section, “C” Troop aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Lance Corporal in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. He returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 8 Oct 1945. There is a note on his service papers stating he re-enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) 34th Infantry Battalion on 16 Feb 1959. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  10. William enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserves) with service No V15058 on 27 May 1941 and posted to 65th Anti Aircraft Company, Royal Australian Artillery on 10 Jun 1941. He transferred to A.I.F. on 10 Oct 1941. He was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard “KOOLAMA” on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. He embarked at Betano for Darwin as a Private aboard “KURU” on 2 Sept 1942. There are only service papers for his Reserve service and not his A.I.F. at this time.

He was posted to 8th Light Horse and transferred to the A.I.F. on 29 Sept 1942. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 22 Dec 1942 and embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 17 Feb 1943. He joined the 2/2nd as a Trooper in No 7 Section, “C” Troop on 25 Jun 1943. He was Wounded in Action, remaining on duty, on 6 Jan 1944. He was medevac'd to Australia aboard “KATOOMBA” on 12 Apr 1944. After treatment he embarked for New Guinea aboard "ORMISTON" on 2 Jul 1944 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 8 Jul 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He embarked for New Britain aboard "DUNTROON" on 9 May 1945 and re-joined the 2/2nd as a Trooper in No 7 Section, “C” Troop. He returned to Australia on 14 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 2 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "PNG".
  12. Laurence enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserves) on 12 Aug 1937 and served with 22nd Infantry Battalion. He was called up for full time duty on 31 Oct 1941 and transferred to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 7 Mar 1943. Lawrence joined the unit on 15 May 1943 at Canungra, Qld and embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. Appointed Lance Corporal on 8 Jun 1943 and paid Lance Corporal on 1 Jul 1943. When contact was made with the Japanese during a patrol in the RAMU Valley, New Guinea, on 10 Jan 1944, he was reported Missing and later confirmed Killed in Action on the same day. He was later buried LAE War Cemetery, New Guinea on the 6 Jan 1946, in Plot "M", Row "C", Grave 6. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  13. Percy enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Reserve) with Service No V245711 on 18 Dec 1941 and was posted to 3rd Australian Artillery Training Regiment. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 16 Sept 1942 and was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 23 Feb 1943. He joined the 2/2nd on 25 Feb 1943 and embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 5 Section, “B” Troop. Doig's book, has the following, "On 22 Oct 1943, Lt Doig and No 5 Section were ordered to patrol towards Mataloi III, in the RAMU Valley, New Guinea. On the 25 Oct 1943, they reached Orguruni Village and came under intense fire from 15 yards (13.5 Mtrs). When Private Hughie Brown, the Section Bren Gunner, was killed by a sniper, Private Mitchell took over the Bren Gun and became a victim of the same sniper." Percy was Killed in Action on 25 Oct 1943 and unfortunately, his body was not recovered. He is commemorated at LAE MEMORIAL Panel 1, Papua New Guinea. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  14. Alan enlisted in the CMF (Citizens Military Force) with Service No V197506 as an 18 year old. He transferred to the AIF on 4 Jan 1943 with Service No VX121270 and he was trained at the 1st Aust Commando Training Squadron, Canungra, Qld, before joining the unit on 3 Jan 1943 as a Trooper. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 in No 9 Section, "C" Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He transferred to Lugger Maintenance Platoon in Darwin and was discharged on 20 Nov 1945. He has a Service No 31696 which generally denotes post WW2 service. He also went under the name on Leslie Allan Mitchell He is known to have received the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  15. Reginald enlisted on 13 Aug 1940 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon and was Killed in Action, 20 Feb 1942, when the ration truck was caught in an ambush, during the first landing of the Japanese on Timor. He is commemorated on the Northern Territory Memorial, Panel 3. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  16. Donovan enlisted on 19 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Signaller in Signals Section, Headquarters Group. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was transferred as an Instructor, to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 5 Apr 1943 and returned to the unit just prior to embarking with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Corporal in Signals Section, Headquarters Group. Don later served with "C" Troop. he was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 1 Jul 1943 and Corporal on 16 Aug 1943. Don returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Corporal in Signals Section, Headquarters Group. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 16 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 18 Jan 1946.     Gordon MULQUEENEY

    Gordon was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 1 Section, “A” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. Sadly, Gordon was killed, when a truck rolled over at Canungra, Queensland, on 22 Mar 1943. He is buried at BRISBANE (LUTWYCHE) CEMETERY Sec. 76. Plot 10. Grave 10. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Harry John MORGAN

    Harry (Mick) enlisted on 13 Dec 1940 and was appointed Acting Lance Corporal on 13 Mar 1941 and promoted Acting Corporal on 16 Apr 1941. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 22 Sept 1941 and Corporal was confirmed on 8 Dec 1941, he would have been Corporal, Lance Sergeant and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Lance Sergeant in No 4 Section, “B” Platoon. He was Wounded in Action (Bad leg Wound) on 2 Mar 1942, took part in the raid on Dili, on night of 15-16 May 1942 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 4 Jul 1942 and took command of No 4 Sect, "B" Platoon. He was Mentioned in Despatches, for Gallant and Distinguished Service, London Gazette, 25 May 1943 and in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, No 119-3 Jun 1943. These are the two Gazettes for the Timor Campaign. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 16 Dec 1942 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 17 Jan 1943. After leave and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Lieutenant, Officer Commanding No 4 Section, “B” Troop and returned to Australia by plane 23 Mar 1944 and re-joined the 2/2nd after they returned to Australia in Sept 1944.. After further leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Lieutenant, Officer Commanding No 1 Section, “A” Troop. Harry returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 14 Nov 1945. Mick was made a Life Member of the Association in 1982.

    John enlisted into the Militia (Reserves) on 16 Dec 1941 and was posted to 44th Infantry Battalion, he transferred to A.I.F. on 27 Aug 1942 and transferred to 10th Light Horse Regiment on 17 Jan 1943. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 9 Jun 1944 and transferred to the unit on 15 Nov 1944. After leave, John embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 20 Jun 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  20. Walter (Ted) enlisted on 20 Dec 1940 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. He was a member of No 7 Sections raid on “Dare”. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 16 Nov 1942 and after the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. Promoted Corporal on 17 May 1943 and after leave and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Corporal in No 7 Section, “C” Troop. He returned to Australia with the unit aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. Walter reverted to Trooper at his own request on 6 Feb 1945, left the unit on 13 Mar 1945 and was discharged on 13 Apr 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Henry (Eric) enlisted on 30 Oct 1940 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. WESTRALIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 4 Section, “B” Platoon. He was Killed in Action, 2 Mar 1942, in the same action as Patrick Knight and is buried at AMBON WAR CEMETERY, Plot 19. Row C. Grave 7. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "CANBERRA" on 2 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd as a Trooper on 28 Nov 1943. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 27 Feb 1944 on leave. He returned to New Guinea aboard "GORGON" on 22 May 1944 and returned to Australia with the 2/2nd aboard "TAROONA" on 8 Sept 1944. He transferred to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 6 Mar 1945 and was discharged on 5 Oct 1945.     Cyril John MURPHY

    Cyril enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserves) on 4 Mar 1941 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 14 Jul 1941, he was posted to 2/1 Field Fortress Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) on the same date. He joined the unit on Timor from 2/1st Field Fortress Company, RAE, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He embarked for Australia on 9 Aug 1942 and was discharged on 8 Nov 1945.
  24. Joseph enlisted on 11 Jul 1940 and was posted to 2/12th Field Ambulance, Royal Australian Medical Corps on 26 Nov 1940. He joined the unit on Timor as a Corporal, from 2/12th Field Ambulance, Royal Australian Medical Corps, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was promoted Corporal on 20 Jul 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to the unit on 23 Dec 1942 and posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 11 Jun 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 27 Aug 1943 and re joined the unit 18 Oct 1943. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Corporal. He returned to Australia on 18 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 26 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
  25. Aloysius enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 26 Jun 1940, was posted to Australian Army Pay Corps (AAPC) with the rank of Corporal. He was promoted Acting Sergeant on 20 Sept 1940 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 29 Jul 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC), Sparrow Section on 31 Jul 1941. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and confirmed Sergeant on 23 Jan 1942. He joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Sergeant from AASC, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He embarked from SUAI aboard "KURU" on 8 Jul 1942. He transferred to AASC Training Depot on 22 Oct 1942 and was discharged on 4 Dec 1943. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
