Clarence enlisted on 10 Mar 1941, was promoted Acting Corporal on 11 Nov 1941. He was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor and was confirmed Corporal on same day. He served in the Headquarters Group. He was medevac'd from Timor aboard "KURU" from SUAI on 8 Jul 1942. He was discharged on 25 Aug 1943.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
