  1. Ernest was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 1 Section, “A” Platoon. He embarked at “BETANO” for Darwin aboard the “KURU” on 19 Aug 1942 as a Private. After leave and reorganization he embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 27 Aug 1943 and re-joined the unit on 2 Nov 1943 as a Trooper. He was Medevac by plane to Australia on7 Jun 1944 and transferred to 110 AGT Company on 12 Sept 1944 and was discharged on 31 Jul 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  2. Frederick was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 6 Section, “B” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization he was appointed Lance Corporal on 4 Jun 1943 and embarked with the unit for New Guinea in No 6 Section, “B” Troop aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. Whilst on New Britain he attended Course No 5, Flame Thrower School from 5 Jul to 9 Jul 1945. He transferred to 22nd Infantry Battalion on 26 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia aboard "VITO" on 16 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 5 Mar 1946.   3. Henry (Mick) enlisted on 21 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 Mar 1942 and after the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was transferred as an Instructor at 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 15 May 1943 and promoted Acting Sergeant on 28 May 1943. Promoted to Acting Staff Sergeant on 10 Oct 1943 and he was discharged for essential service (ship building) on 25 Feb 1944. Was made a Life Member of the unit in 1953. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Jim CORNEY

    Jim enlisted on 21 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in Headquarters Sect, “A” Platoon. After his campaign on Timor, he Medivac to Darwin on 22 Sept 1942 as a Lance Corporal. After medical treatment he was transferred to "D" Sub H.Q. Australian Kit Stores and was appointed Acting Sergeant on 10 Dec 1945 and promoted to Sergeant on 22 Jan 1946. Jim was discharged on 17 Feb 1947. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  5. Roderick enlisted on 21 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 1 Sect, “A” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit as a Lance Corporal in No 1 Sect, “A” Troop, for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 12 Aug 1943 and was wounded in action at “MAULULI”, New Guinea on 14 Aug 1943. He returned to Australia on 8 Sept 1943 and was discharged on 14 Mar 1944. On 7 Jul 1944 Roderick gave up his pension and enlisted into the R.A.A.F. with Service No 85098 with the rank of Leading Aircraftman. He was serving with 7th COMMUNICATIONS UNIT and was discharged on 11 Mar 1946. His RAAF service papers are not yet available.     Frank enlisted on 21 May and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 1 Section, “A” Platoon. He was promoted Corporal on 1 Aug 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Corporal in No 1 Section, “A” Troop aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with the unit aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He was appointed Lance Sergeant ( held the rank but not the pay to see how he performed in the rank) on 2 Feb 1945. After further leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Lance Sergeant in Headquarters Group. He was attached to Australian Army Catering Corps on 11 Jun 1945 and emplaned to Lae, New Guinea on 5 Jul to attend and qualify on "New Guinea Training School Unit Bread Baking Wing" from 7 Jul to 7 Aug 1945. He returned to the unit on 5 Aug 1945 and promoted acting Sergeant on 27 Sept 1945. Promoted Sergeant 27 Dec 1945. He returned to Australia aboard "SALAMANDUA" 18 Jan 1945 and was discharged on 14 Feb 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 17 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 1 Sect, “A” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit as a Corporal in No 3 sect, “A” Troop for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. He flew to Australia on 15 May 1945 to attend an Officer Cadet Training Unit from 21 May to 10 Sept 1945, commissioned as a Lieutenant on 9 Sept 1945. He transferred to Headquarters, South Australia on 9 Oct 1945 and then to Australia Staging Camp on 7 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 19 Jul 1946.     Harris John BROWN

    Harris was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 2 Sect, “A” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on either 11 Dec 1942 or 16 Dec 1942, as the embarkation rolls do not differentiate. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Lance Corporal. He transferred out of the unit to 4th Reinforcement Training Battalion on 10 Oct 1943 and was discharged 31 Aug 1945. Harris re-joined the Australian Army for the Korean War with Service No 5995 and served with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment in Korea, 21 Nov 1951 to 29 Oct 1952.

    Cyril Ernest DOYLE

    Cyril (Tiger) enlisted on 17 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 2 Sect, “A” Platoon. He was involved with the defence of the Dili Airfield when the Japanese first made contact with the unit. He was sent with a messenger to alert Captain Callinan at Force HQ, Dili, that the Japanese had landed and attacking the Airfield. He and Callinan had then to make their way back to Company HQ and were missing for a short time. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942,. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit as a Trooper in No 2 Sect, “A” Troop, for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. He was killed in action on 29 Sep 1943 on the track Kesawai to Korepa at Maululi, New Giunea. He is buried at Lae War Cemetery, Grave No 14, Row C, Plot E. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer Tjerk Hiddes on 16 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganisation he embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Lance Corporal in No 7 Section, “C” Troop aboard SS Duntroon on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard Taroona on 3 Sept 1944.     Neil was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in the Headquarters Staff. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred out of the unit to Australian Army Medical Corps and was attached to 2 / 16th Battalion on 6 Jul 1943 and embarked for New Guinea with them aboard "DUNTROON" on 6 Aug 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard "CANBERRA" on 18 Feb 1944. He embarked with the 2/16th Battalion for MOROTAI aboard "GENERAL ANDERSON" on 2 Jun 1945, then embarked for BALIKPAPAN aboard "MANOORA" on 21 Jun 1945. Neil returned to Australia aboard "MORETON BAY" on 19 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 14 Jan 1946. He applied to join the Royal Australian Air Force on 3 Oct 1957 but it is not known if he was successful.     John enlisted on 6 may 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 9 Sect, “C” Platoon. In Jul 1942 he was part of “H” Force which comprised 2 Officers and 10 men to source food and patrol the east end of the island for Japanese infiltration. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 8 Jun 1943 and embarked with the unit as a Lance Corporal in No 9 Sect, “C” Troop for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943. He was then appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 1 Jul 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 30 Jan 1945. John was Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette, 8 March 1945, Commonwealth Gazette, No 54, 15 March 1945, for Distinguished Service in the South West Pacific (New Guinea). After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit, as a Corporal in No 9 Sect, “C” Troop. he was confirmed as Corporal on 30 Apr 1945.     Peter ALEXANDER

    Prior to joining the unit Peter served in 28th Battalion and 24th Anti Tank and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. During the first landing of the Japanese on Timor, on the 20 Feb 1942, he was on the ration truck with some other members of No 7 Section, when it was caught in an ambush. Peter was then taken Prisoner of War and later served on the Burma Railway. He embarked for Sydney from Singapore on 19 Sept 1945 aboard "DUNTROON", arriving on 7 Oct 1945 and after some time recuperating, was discharged on 27 Feb 1946. The Japanese Instructions for POWs is from Peter. Peter was made a Life Member of the Association in 2001. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He maybe entitled to an Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp.

    Anthony was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in the Headquarters Group of “A” Platoon. He transferred to 4th Reinforcement Training Battalion on 10 Oct 1943 and reverted to Private 4 May 1944 and moved to Headquarters of the 4th Reinforcement Training Battalion on 10 Jan 1944. He transferred to 2/12th Commando Squadron on 3 Jun 1944, then to 2/3rd Australian Tank Attack Regiment on 4 Jan 1945. He embarked for MOROTAI aboard "LINDLAY M GARRISON" on 3 Apr 1945 and then embarked for BORNEO aboard Landing Ship Troops (LST) 129 on 21 Jun 1945. He returned to Australia aboard "PAUCHANG VICTORY" on 24 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 19 Mar 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
  24. Frederick enlisted on 2 Feb 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. He was Killed in Action, 20 Feb 1942, when the Ration Truck was caught in an ambush, during the first landing of the Japanese on Timor. He is commemorated on the Northern Territory Memorial, Panel 3. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Donald Hilton AIREY

    Prior to joining the unit Donald served with 24th Anti Tank. He was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 serving as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. Donald was Killed in Action, 20 Feb 1942, when the section was caught in an ambush during the first landing of Japanese on Timor. He is commemorated at the Northern Territory Memorial, Panel 3. Son of Robert and Hilda Mary Airey, of Shenton Park, Western Australia. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below
