William enlisted on 17 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private, (in Doig's Book he is listed as a Lance Corporal, but nothing in his records) in No 1 Section, “A” Platoon. He was wounded in action and was casevac to Australia on 22 Aug 1942 with a fractured Fibula. After treatment he transferred to 16th Australian Infantry Training Company on 21 Dec 1942, 3rd Australian Training Company on 29 Apr 1943 and was discharged on 26 Nov 1943. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force on 4 Dec 1943 with Service No 441669. His RAAF service papers are not yet available but from the WW2 Nominal roll it is known that he was a Flight Sergeant and serving in 200th Flight at Leyburn, Qld, when he was discharged on 14 Nov 1945. It is not known if he served overseas with the R.A.A.F. Waiting for RAAF records to be released. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  4. THIS MANS SERVICE FILE IS MISSING SOME PAGES. He only has one page of his service history from enlistment to 19 Sept 1943. UNKNOWN IF SERVED WITH UNIT James enlisted into the Citizens Military Forces (Reserve) on 2 Mar 1942 with service No N169022 and served with 20th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA). On 9 Dec 1942 he transferred to 231st Light Anti-aircraft Battery, RAA, in NSW and then transferred on 2 Sept 1943 to 554th Australian Light Anti-aircraft Battery, RAA, in Qld. He embarked with them aboard "Van Heutz" at Brisbane on 11 Sept 1943 and disembarked at Moresby on 19 Sept 1943. There are no more pages of his history in his file. He transferred to the AIF on 11 Oct 1943 and his service papers state that he did so whilst in New Guinea. He served in New Guinea 11 Sept 1943 to 19 Feb 1945. His papers state he then served in New Britain 18 Apr 1945 to 18 Jan 1946. His papers state that his last unit on discharge was 2nd / 2nd Commando Squadron on New Britain. When the war in the Pacific ended and units were breaking up, due to soldiers being readied for discharge, the soldiers were sent to the 2nd / 2nd Commando Squadron as a staging unit for rationing purposes only. As we have no proof of whether or not he served with the unit prior to the End of the war, we are including his name and details on our nominal roll, until we prove one way or the other. I'm currently adding the info into each mans Bio in the "men of the 2/2" section and am in the "M's" at the moment, if you click on some of the names in the A to L you will see what I'm doing. The info I have is purely 2/2 orientated, so if you or the family wish to add any other info please don't hesitate to let us know. A good example is Alan Luby NX55531, I have his 2/2 info and Ed Willis has added a lot more to his story.     Ronald LAWSON DOOK

    Ronald enlisted on 9 Mat 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 Mar 1942 and after the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. Ron was injured during training at Canungra and after treatment he embarked aboard "GROGAN" for New Guinea on 6 Dec 1943 and re-joined the unit on 11 Dec 1943 and was appointed Lance Sergeant on 21 Dec 1943 in No 10 Section, Headquarters Group. Ronald returned to Australia aboard "LEWIS SYCHE" on 1 Mar 1944 and attended Officer Cadet Training Unit Course No 11 20 Mar 1944. He was promoted Lieutenant 8 Jul 1944 and posted as an Instructor to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 18 Nov 1944. He transferred to 2/8th Australian Commando Squadron on27 Dec 1944 and embarked with them aboard "SHAWNEE" for Bougainville on 5 Jan 1945. He returned to Australia aboard "ORMISTON" on 5 Nov 1945 and was discharged on 27 Nov 1945. Ronald was made a Life Member of the Association in 1955. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He could now be entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp
  11. George enlisted on 26 Feb 1942 and was posted to 48th Infantry Battalion on 3 Apr 1942 and transferred to 108th Anti Aircraft Regiment on 11 Sept 1942. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 6 Mar 1943 and joined the unit on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper. He was Medevac by plane to Australia on 2 Sept 1944. He was discharged on 11 Oct 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  12. Robert (Bob) enlisted on 21 Apr 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Sapper in Engineers Section, Headquarters Group. He and Sapper Richards blew the Dili Aerodrome in the initial assault by the Japanese on 19/20 Feb 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 14 Apr 1943 and then to 29th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 28 Apr 1943. He further transferred to 3rd Anti Aircraft and Fortress Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) on 25 Oct 1943, then 25th Fortress Works (RAE) Section on 1 Nov 1944. He was posted to 1st RAE Training Battalion on 19 Jul 1945 and then to Far East Liaison Office on 19 Jul 1945. bob flew to Moratai on 31 Jul 1945 and returned by plane to Australia on 26 Oct 1945. He was discharged on 6 Dec 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  13. Christopher was a Corporal in the Citizens Military Forces (Reserves) when he enlisted in the A.I.F. on 29 May 1940 and posted to 2/40th Battalion. He was promoted to Acting Corporal on 8 Jul 1940 and Sergeant on 22 Nov 1940 and embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Sergeant from 2/40th Battalion, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and on 8 May 1942, they were formed into a new Platoon, “D” Platoon under the command of Lieutenant Turton and later under Lt Doig. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. Like all the men who served on Timor he suffered numerous medical episodes. He was posted to Head Quarters, Tasmania Lines of Communication on 5 Aug 1943 and was discharged on 7 Feb 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    John enlisted on 11 Nov 1941 and posted to 2/40th Battalion on 15 Dec 1941. He joined the unit on Timor as a Private from 2/40th Battalion, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was on Berwin Dennis’s full nominal roll which was compiled on Timor in August and September of 1942. He was Wounded in Action on Timor, no date given. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He embarked for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 5 Jun 1945 and joined Headquarters 1st Australian Army on 21 Jun 1945. He returned to Australia aboard “WINCHESTER VICTORY” on 1 Apr 1946 and was discharged on 24 Apr 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".

    Gordon Rex WATTS

    Gordon enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserve) on 7 Jan 1942 and posted to 9th Supply Reserve Company. He transferred to 15th Supply Depot on 29 Oct 1943 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 22 Feb 1944, then transferred to 90th Supply Platoon on 10 May 1944. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 24 Nov 1944 and joined the unit on 31 Jan 1945. He embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He embarked for Australia aboard “TAROONA” on 10 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 29 Nov 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  17. Horace enlisted on 16 Jul 1940 and was posted to 2/40th Battalion. He was appointed Acting Lance Corporal on 6 Dec 1940 and Corporal on 21 Mar 1941. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Corporal from 2/40th Battalion, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and, on 8 May 1942, they were formed into a new Platoon, "D" Platoon under the command of Lieutenant Turton and later under Lt Doig.   18. Albert (Jack) enlisted on and posted to 2/40th Battalion on 1 Jul 1940. He was promoted to Acting Orderly Room Sergeant on the same date. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 1 Jan 1941 and joined the unit on Timor as a Staff Sergeant from 2/40th Battalion, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. Late in Mar 1942, he was part of Lt Doig's No 13 Section, comprising men, from the Koepang end of Timor, that were stationed at Maliana to patrol the boarder area. He later became part of "H" Force, 2 Officers and eleven other ranks, which, in Jul 1942, was detailed to patrol the east end of Timor and protect the Northern Flank of the unit from a surprize attack from the Japanese and also to procure supplies from this productive area. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on 16 Dec 1942. He was discharged on 18 Jun 1944. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 29 Dec 1942 but reverted to Private at his own request on 28 Jan 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 17 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 28 Nov 1943 as a Trooper in No 10 Section, Headquarters Group. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 27 Feb 1944 then embarked for New Guinea aboard "ORMISTON" on 5 May 1944 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 14 May 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 8 Section, “C” Troop. He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 15 Apr 1945. He returned to Australia on 18 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 30 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Thomas Keith WILSON

    Thomas (Horse) enlisted on 19 Jan 1941 with Service No N228862 and was posted to 1st Division Ammunition Company, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). He transferred to the A.I.F. on 10 Jul 1942 and was posted to Guerrilla Warfare Training Centre Victoria on 28 Sept 1942. He transferred to Jungle Warfare Training Centre, Canungra, Queensland on 27 Dec 1942 and was promoted Acting Corporal on 28 Dec 1942, but reverted to Private at his own request on 28 Jan 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 17 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 25 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. He was on a patrol with 5 others of No 9 Section to Kulau, New Guinea to try and capture a prisoner. They were confronted by a large force of Japanese and Trooper Donald Ramshaw was Killed in Action on 10 Jan 1944. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 12 Apr 1944 and embarked for New Guinea aboard "ORMISTON" on 2 Jul 1944. He re-joined the 2/2nd on 8 Jul 1944 and was detached to 18th Australian War Graves Unit on 19 Aug 1944. He flew to Australia on 22 Sept 1944 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 30 Sept 1944.. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 15 Apr 1945. He returned to Australia on 1 Apr 1946 and was discharged on 19 Jun 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "PNG"

    Keith enlisted on 9 Dec 1941 and was posted to 14th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery and embarked for New Guinea with them on 25 Jun 1942 as a Private. He was appointed Lance Bombardier on 8 Sept 1943 and returned to Australia aboard “KATOOMBA” on 5 Feb 1944. He joined the unit on 31 Jan 1945 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He left the unit on 26 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia on 5 Apr 1946. He was discharged on 10 May 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".

    Edwin Oscar WILSON

    Edwin enlisted on 24 Apr 1941 and posted to 2/1st Fortress Signals on 10 Jul 1941. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Signaller from 2/1st Fortress Signals, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was medevac'd for Australia aboard "KURU" on 9 Aug 1942. He transferred to 19th Australian Employment Company (AEC) on 15 Feb 1943, then to 21st AEC on 18 Feb 1943, which was designated as 21st Australian Works Company. Transferred to 120th Australian Special Hospital on 1 Dec 1944, appointed Lance Corporal 25 May 1945, promoted Corporal on 13 Sept 1945 and appointed Lance Sergeant on 23 Oct 1946. He transferred to 113th Concord Mil Hospital on 2 Dec 1946 and was discharged on 1 Aug 1947. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    David Roy WILLIAMS

    David was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. David embarked for Australia at “SUAI” aboard “KURU” on 8 Jul 1942 and was discharged on 16 Sept 1942. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  24. Douglas enlisted in to the Citizens Military Forces (Reserves) with Service No N26340, date unknown, and serviced with 1st Division, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) as a Lieutenant. He enlisted in the A.I.F. on 29 Jul 1941, claiming 3 years prior service in the reserves and was posted to AASC Sparrow Force. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Lieutenant from AASC Sparrow Force, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He embarked at “SUAI” for Darwin aboard the “KURU” on 25 Jul 1942 as a Lieutenant. He Transferred as an Instructor to 2nd AASC Training Depot on 22 Dec 1942, then 1st AASC Training Depot on 24 May 1943. Transferred to 146th Australian General Transport Company on 28 Jun 1944, was promoted Captain on 17 Jan 1945 and posted as Officer Commanding, 2/4th Australian Motor Ambulance Convoy Platoon on 1 Feb 1945. He embarked with them for New Guinea aboard "MILLEN GRIFFITH" on 27 May 1945, then for Morotai aboard "C H MATSON" on 9 Jun 1945 and embarked for Balikpapan aboard Landing Ship Troops (LST) 18 on 7 Jul 1945. He returned by plane to Australia on 2 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 18 Dec 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Charles had prior service with the R.A.A.F. with Service No 412856 for 5 months when he enlisted on 17 Dec 1941. He was posted to 11th Armoured Car Regiment on 28 Dec 1941, appointed Lance Corporal on 24 Aug 1942 and reverted to Trooper at his own request on 10 Jul 1943. He transferred to 1st Australian Base Depot on 5 Jun 1944 then to 16th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 5 Jun 1944 and then to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 6 Nov 1944. He flew to New Guinea on 10 May 1945, then embarked for New Britain aboard “SUVA” on 17 May 1945 and joined the 2/2nd on 19 May 1945 as a Trooper in No 1 Section, “A” Troop. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 16 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 8 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp and may also be entitled to 1939-45 Star.
