    Gordon Rex WATTS

    Gordon enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserve) on 7 Jan 1942 and posted to 9th Supply Reserve Company. He transferred to 15th Supply Depot on 29 Oct 1943 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 22 Feb 1944, then transferred to 90th Supply Platoon on 10 May 1944. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 24 Nov 1944 and joined the unit on 31 Jan 1945. He embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He embarked for Australia aboard “TAROONA” on 10 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 29 Nov 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  2. Horace enlisted on 16 Jul 1940 and was posted to 2/40th Battalion. He was appointed Acting Lance Corporal on 6 Dec 1940 and Corporal on 21 Mar 1941. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Corporal from 2/40th Battalion, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and, on 8 May 1942, they were formed into a new Platoon, "D" Platoon under the command of Lieutenant Turton and later under Lt Doig. He was medevac'd to Australia on 22 Aug 1942 and was discharged on 21 Feb 1943. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
  3. Albert (Jack) enlisted on and posted to 2/40th Battalion on 1 Jul 1940. He was promoted to Acting Orderly Room Sergeant on the same date. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 1 Jan 1941 and joined the unit on Timor as a Staff Sergeant from 2/40th Battalion, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. Late in Mar 1942, he was part of Lt Doig's No 13 Section, comprising men, from the Koepang end of Timor, that were stationed at Maliana to patrol the boarder area. He later became part of "H" Force, 2 Officers and eleven other ranks, which, in Jul 1942, was detailed to patrol the east end of Timor and protect the Northern Flank of the unit from a surprize attack from the Japanese and also to procure supplies from this productive area. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on 16 Dec 1942. He was discharged on 18 Jun 1944.   4. Donald (Don) enlisted on 13 Dec 1941 and was posted to Guerrilla Warfare Centre, Foster on 24 Sept 1942. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 29 Dec 1942 but reverted to Private at his own request on 28 Jan 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 17 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 28 Nov 1943 as a Trooper in No 10 Section, Headquarters Group. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 27 Feb 1944 then embarked for New Guinea aboard "ORMISTON" on 5 May 1944 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 14 May 1944. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 8 Section, “C” Troop. He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 15 Apr 1945. He returned to Australia on 18 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 30 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Thomas Keith WILSON

    Thomas (Horse) enlisted on 19 Jan 1941 with Service No N228862 and was posted to 1st Division Ammunition Company, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). He transferred to the A.I.F. on 10 Jul 1942 and was posted to Guerrilla Warfare Training Centre Victoria on 28 Sept 1942. He transferred to Jungle Warfare Training Centre, Canungra, Queensland on 27 Dec 1942 and was promoted Acting Corporal on 28 Dec 1942, but reverted to Private at his own request on 28 Jan 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "KATOOMBA" on 17 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 25 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. He was on a patrol with 5 others of No 9 Section to Kulau, New Guinea to try and capture a prisoner. They were confronted by a large force of Japanese and Trooper Donald Ramshaw was Killed in Action on 10 Jan 1944. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 12 Apr 1944 and embarked for New Guinea aboard "ORMISTON" on 2 Jul 1944. He re-joined the 2/2nd on 8 Jul 1944 and was detached to 18th Australian War Graves Unit on 19 Aug 1944. He flew to Australia on 22 Sept 1944 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 30 Sept 1944.. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 9 Section, “C” Troop. He was appointed Paid Lance Corporal on 15 Apr 1945.     Keith enlisted on 9 Dec 1941 and was posted to 14th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery and embarked for New Guinea with them on 25 Jun 1942 as a Private. He was appointed Lance Bombardier on 8 Sept 1943 and returned to Australia aboard “KATOOMBA” on 5 Feb 1944. He joined the unit on 31 Jan 1945 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He left the unit on 26 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia on 5 Apr 1946. He was discharged on 10 May 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Edwin enlisted on 24 Apr 1941 and posted to 2/1st Fortress Signals on 10 Jul 1941. He embarked for Timor on 8 Dec 1941 and joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Signaller from 2/1st Fortress Signals, after the fall of Koepang, approx. March 1942. He was medevac'd for Australia aboard "KURU" on 9 Aug 1942. He transferred to 19th Australian Employment Company (AEC) on 15 Feb 1943, then to 21st AEC on 18 Feb 1943, which was designated as 21st Australian Works Company. Transferred to 120th Australian Special Hospital on 1 Dec 1944, appointed Lance Corporal 25 May 1945, promoted Corporal on 13 Sept 1945 and appointed Lance Sergeant on 23 Oct 1946. He transferred to 113th Concord Mil Hospital on 2 Dec 1946 and was discharged on 1 Aug 1947.     David was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. David embarked for Australia at “SUAI” aboard “KURU” on 8 Jul 1942 and was discharged on 16 Sept 1942. He embarked with them for New Guinea aboard "MILLEN GRIFFITH" on 27 May 1945, then for Morotai aboard "C H MATSON" on 9 Jun 1945 and embarked for Balikpapan aboard Landing Ship Troops (LST) 18 on 7 Jul 1945.     Charles had prior service with the R.A.A.F. with Service No 412856 for 5 months when he enlisted on 17 Dec 1941. He was posted to 11th Armoured Car Regiment on 28 Dec 1941, appointed Lance Corporal on 24 Aug 1942 and reverted to Trooper at his own request on 10 Jul 1943. He transferred to 1st Australian Base Depot on 5 Jun 1944 then to 16th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 5 Jun 1944 and then to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 6 Nov 1944. He flew to New Guinea on 10 May 1945, then embarked for New Britain aboard “SUVA” on 17 May 1945 and joined the 2/2nd on 19 May 1945 as a Trooper in No 1 Section, “A” Troop. He returned to Australia aboard "KATOOMBA" on 16 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 8 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     Ernest (Willy) was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private and served in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on either 11 Dec 1942 or 16 Dec 1942, as the embarkation rolls do not differentiate. After leave and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 7 Section, “C” Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 7 Section, “C” Troop. He was discharged on 2 Jan 1946.

    John enlisted in Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 10 Feb 1942 and was posted to H.Q. Australian Motor Brigade on 13 May 1942. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 20 Aug 1942 and was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 5 Apr 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 2 Section, “A” Troop and was wounded in action on 15 Mar 1944 and was hospitalized. He re-joined the 2/2nd on 21 May 1944 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After more medical treatment in Australia, he was transferred to 17th Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot on 27 Jan 1945 and was discharged on 16 Jul 1946.     Bernard Ashton WEIR

    Bernard enlisted on 25 May 1936 in the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) with Service No 427855 and served with 60 Field Battery, Royal Australian Artillery and was discharged on 24 Mar 1939. He enlisted in the A.I.F. 8 Nov 1939 and was posted to 2/1st Infantry Battalion. He embarked for the Middle East on 10 Jan 1940 and then embarked for Greece on 16 Mar 1941. He returned to Middle East in May 1941. He returned to Australia aboard "DEVONSHIRE" on 7 Aug 1942. He was promoted Acting Corporal on 28 Dec 1942 and was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 15 Feb 1943 and joined 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He reverted to Trooper at own request, same day. Bernard embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Oct 1945 and was discharged on 19 Oct 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp. All Australian Troops serving in Greece are entitled to a 1940-41 Greek War Medal.

    Lionel (Slim) was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on 16 Dec 1942. After medical treatment and leave, he embarked for New Guinea aboard “KATOOMBA” on 27 Aug 1943 and re joined the unit on 18 Oct 1943 as a Trooper and served in Transport Section, Headquarters Group. As the unit had no transport, the Transport Section was used as another fighting Section. Lionel attended a Medical Board on 6 Apr 1944 and was classified Class “B”, he returned to Australia aboard “TAROONA” on 22 Apr 1944. He transferred to Headquarters, 2nd Australian Recruit Training Battalion on 15 Jun 1944 and was discharged on 29 Nov 1944. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on 11 Dec 1942. He transferred to 1st Australian Lines of Communication Provost Corps on 31 May 1943 and promoted Acting Corporal on 1 Jul 1943. Vince attended No 9 Land Headquarters Provost Training School from 13 Sept 1943 to 29 Nov 1943 and qualified. Rank of Corporal confirmed on 3 Mar 1944 and attended Land Headquarters School of Army Education Course No 9 from 8 Sept 1944 to 6 Oct 1944. He joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943 and attended 1st Australian Cooking School from 27 May to 4 Jul 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard “TAROONA” on 11 Jul 1943 and re-joined the 2/2nd on 16 Jul 1943 as a Cook in Headquarters Group. He returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After further leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Cook in Head Quarters Group. He was promoted Corporal Cook on 28 Jul 1945.     James Henry WARD

    James enlisted on 19 May 1942 as a Sapper in 65th Australian Anti Aircraft Company with service No V157280. He transferred to the 2nd AIF on 30 Sept 1942 and after several appointments embarked for Milne Bay, New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" on 27 Sept 1943. He transferred to 2/153rd Australian General Transport Company on 3 Jan 1944 and embarked from Lae, New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" for Australia on 20 May 1944. After training he joined the unit on 19 Nov 1944 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. James left the unit and embarked from Jacquinot Bay, New Britain for Australia on 15 Sept 1945 aboard "TAROONA". He joined 140th Australian General Transport Company on 25 Oct 1945 and after serving with other transport units, he was discharged on 30 Sept 1946. For his service during the war he was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45.
  21. Walter enlisted in Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 24 Jul 1942 and transferred to the A.I.F. on 20 Oct 1942. After training he embarked for New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" on 23 Mar 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 8 Jul 1943. He returned to Australia aboard "CABERRA" on 18 Feb 1944. He re-joined the 2/2nd on 15 Sept 1944 on their return from New Guinea. After reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He left the 2/2nd and embarked for Morotai aboard LST 419 on 10 Dec 1945. He joined 67th Australian Infantry Battalion on 19 Dec 1954 and then embarked for Japan aboard "STANFORD VICTORY" on 7 Feb 1946. He returned to Australia aboard "KANIMBLA" on 24 May 194, was posted to 1st Base Workshops on 16 Jun 1948 and he was discharged on 14 Sept 1948. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.   22. Robert enlisted on 24 Dec 1941 and was posted to 14th Infantry Battalion on 24 Mar 1942. He embarked for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 8 May 1943 and joined the unit on 8 Jul 1943 as a Trooper. He died of illness at Bena Bena Force Hospital, New Guinea on 30 Oct 1943 and is buried at Lae War Cemetery, Plot C, Row D, Grave 1.   23. Vincent (Paddy) was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Sapper in Engineers Section, Headquarters Group. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. After leave he embarked for New Guinea aboard “KATOOMBA” on 27 Aug 1943 and re-joined the unit as a Sapper on 2 Nov 1944. He transferred to 2/6th Field Company Engineers on 28 Dec 1943, then to 2/5th Field Company Engineers on 14 Jan 1944 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 4 Mar 1944. Paddy transferred to 2/12th Infantry Battalion on 22 Jan 1945 and was discharged on 21 Dec 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
