He embarked at Cairns for MOROTAI aboard Landing Ship Troops 935 on 23 May 1945 and then embarked for Borneo aboard "WESTRALIA" for BORNEO on 21 Jun 1945. He returned to Australia aboard USA Transport "WINCHESTER VICTORY" on 13 Feb 1946 and was discharged on 30 May 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".

    James enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserves) on 28 Oct 1941 and posted to 20th Field regiment, Royal Australian Artillery on 13 Mar 1942. he transferred to the A.I.F. on 23 Sept 1942 and after Commando training at Foster, Victoria, James Joined the unit on 25 Dec 1943 on their return from Timor. After training and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard SS “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943, as a Trooper in Headquarters Group and he left the unit on the 4 Mar 1944 to return to Australia, aboard "ORMISTON" on 30 Mar 1944 and was discharged on 15 Sept 1944.     Maxwell enlisted in the Citizens Military Forces (Reserves) with Service No 56943 on 2 Dec 1936 and was posted to "C" Squadron, 1st Machine Gun Regiment. He was promoted Corporal on 1 Nov 1938 and transferred to the NSW Permanent Forces on 12 Jun 1939 with Service No NP5379 and was posted to Darwin Mobile Force, RAA. Transferred to 1st Heavy Brigade, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) on on 26 Jun 1939. He was appointed Lance Bombardier (Artillery Lance Corporal) on 1 Jun 1940 and Bombardier (Artillery Corporal) on 22 Nov 1940. All these ranks are null in void when he transferred to the A.I.F. on 21 Aug 1942 and was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 6 Mar 1943. Max joined the 2/2nd on 21 May 1943.     James joined the R.A.A.F. as aircrew on 7 Dec 1941, with Service No 421071. He served as a Leading Aircraftsman until joining the A.I.F. on 9 Sept 1942. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Signalman in Signals Section, Headquarters Group, aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Signalman, Signals Section, Headquarters Group. He was discharged on 9 Jan 1946. James re-enlisted into the Royal Aust Signals Corps with Service No 2/1908 and served from 9 Jan 1948 to 7 Nov 1965 and retired as a Warrant Officer Class II. This service included British Commonwealth Occupation Forces in Japan.

    Harry enlisted on 21 Jan 1942 and was posted to 2/11th Armoured Car Regiment on 23 Jan 1942. On 11 Jul 1944 he was posted to 16th Australian Infantry Training Battalion and then to 1st Australian Commando Training Squadron on 6 Nov 1944. he joined the unit on 23 Jan 1945 and embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper. He returned to Australia aboard "SALAMAU" on 18 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 2 Jul 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.     When the unit returned from TIMOR, Neal joined the unit in the Northern Territory on 25 Dec 1942. After leave and reorganization, he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard SS “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 8 Section, “C” Troop and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He transferred out of the unit on 3 Apr 1945 and joined Land Headquarters Victoria on 16 Apr 1945. He was promoted Corporal and appointed Lance Sergeant on 26 May 1945. He transferred to 1st Australian Army Detachment on 2 Aug 1945 and embarked for New Guinea with them on 30 Aug 1945.   14. Kenneth (Skeeta) was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private and was a reinforcement for No 7 Section, “C” Platoon. He was wounded in action at “Dare”, Gun Shot Wound Left leg and Right thigh and was evacuated from Timor on 19 Sept 1942. He officially left the unit on 20 Aug 1943. He joined 2/33rd Infantry Battalion on 26 Jan 1945 and embarked for MOROTAI aboard "HOWELL LYKES" on 9 Jun 1945, then embarked for BALIKPAPAN, Borneo aboard Landing Ship Troops 626 on 25 Jun 1945. Kenneth transferred to 65th Infantry Battalion on 15 Oct 1945 and embarked for MOROTAI aboard Landing Ship Troops 303 on 23 Oct 1945. He embarked for KURU, JAPAN aboard "GLENGYLE" on 7 Feb 1946 arriving on 22 Feb 1946.     John Allan CARDY

    John enlisted into the British Regular Army on 5 Feb 1930 and was posted to the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. In 1931, he was posted with his unit to India. Promoted to Sergeant during his time in India and in 1938 transferred to the Australian Army and then qualified as a Warrant Officer Class 11 Instructor as a prerequisite to instruct at No 1 Officer Training School, Liverpool, NSW. Posted to No 7 Infantry Training Centre at Foster. This is where the unit was first trained. John was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “Kalama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Lieutenant and in May he was in command of No 5 Sect, “B” Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on either 11 Dec 1942 or 16 Dec 1942, as the embarkation rolls do not differentiate. After leave and reorganization he embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard S.S. “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Lieutenant. He was invalided out of New Guinea to Australia. On recovery he was transferred out of the unit to numerous postings. 1945 Promoted to Captain. Given Service No 2338. 1946 Staff Captain, Headquarters, Eastern Command. 1949 Area Staff Officer, Riverina, NSW. 1951 Commanding Officer of 15th Cadet Battalion, Young, NSW. 1953 Commanding Officer of 10th Cadet Battalion. 1955 First Adjutant / Quarter Master, Australian Regular Army Commando Unit (No1 Company) 1957 First Officer in Australia issued with Green Beret. 1958 Transferred to Royal NSW Lancers. 1961 Posted to Company Command Battle Group. 1962 Posted to Headquarters, Eastern Command as Staff Captain “Q”. 1964 Promoted to Major. 1972 Retired form Army as a Major and Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

    Ernest Alfred FIELD

    Ernest (Ernie) enlisted in Citizen Military Force (Reserve) on 9 Aug 1940 and posted to 53rd Battalion. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 27 Nov 1941 and was posted to Australian Army Service Corps, Sparrow Force on 30 Dec 1941. He joined the unit on Timor as a Driver with the Australian Army Service Corps, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He was one of the former Koepang men, who moved to the village of Mape for intensive commando training and on 8 May 1942, he was assigned to No 7 Section, "C" Platoon. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He was discharged on 5 Jul 1943.     Mervyn Ronald COLES

    Mervyn was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dili, Timor, aboard M.V. “KOOLAMA”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Sapper, in the Engineers Section, Headquarters Group. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 11 Dec 1942. He was discharged from the 2nd A.I.F. on 29 Nov 1945. He rejoined the Aust Army and served in Korea as a Private, Service No 21397, in the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps from 20 May 1953 to 31 Oct 1953, with the Australian Ancillary Unit, Korea. Then went on to serve in Malaya and was awarded a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

His service papers has his name as Edward Falcon Barker but the World War 2 nominal roll only has Falcon Falcon embarked from Sydney for the Middle East on 27 Jun 1941, arriving 31 Jul 1941 and was taken on the strength of 2.1st Infantry Battalion on 8 Sept 1941. He embarked from the Middle East for Ceylon on 27 Mar 1942 and transferred to Headquarters (AIF) Ceylon on 5 Apr 1942 and returned to Australia on 4 Aug 1942. He was promoted to Corporal on 10 Sept 1942 and transferred to 6th Australian Division Intelligence Section on 12 Sept 1942 and embarked for New Guinea on 2 Nov 1942. Promoted to Sergeant on 5 Jan 1943 and returned to Australia on 9 Feb 1943. Falcon transferred to 2/6th Australian Independent Company on 26 Jul 1943 and reverted to Private at own request. He embarked with them for New Guinea aboard "DUNTROON" on 31 Jul 1943. He transferred to the unit on 21 Jun 1944 on New Guinea as a Trooper and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He embarked for New Britain aboard "ORMISTON” on 6 Sept 1945 and re-joined the unit as a Trooper on 8 Sept 1945. He transferred out of the unit on 9 Nov 1945 and joined the 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 13 Dec 1945 and returned to Australia on 16 Jun 1946, where he was discharged on 25 Jun 1946.   19. Thomas enlisted on 10 Mar 1941 and was posted to 2/13th Australian Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) on 18 Mar 1941. He embarked for the Middle East on 1 Sept 1941 and returned to Australia aboard "EMPIRE SCOTT" on 26 Apr 1942. He transferred to 2/1st Medium Regiment, RAA. He was posted to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 25 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943, embarking with the unit for New Guinea as a Trooper in No 5 sect, “B” Troop aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. After leave and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Trooper in No 5 sect, “B” Troop. He returned to Australia on 8 Jan 1946 and was discharged on 29 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp. Due to rule changes he may now be entitled to an Africa Star.

He joined the 2/2nd on Timor as a Private from 2/12th Field Ambulance, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hiddes” on 16 Dec 1942. He transferred to the 2/2nd and promoted Corporal on 23 Dec 1943. Alan returned to MOROTAI aboard "J. J. CORBETT" on 15 Sept 1945 and returned to Australia aboard "WESTRALIA" on 16 Oct 1945. He was discharged on 24 Jan 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He may now also be entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".

    Len Edwin COKER

    Len enlisted on 12 Jul 1940 and after training was posted to No 1 Australian Independent Company on 10 May 1941. He embarked with them for New Guinea as a Private aboard "ZEALANDIA" on 12 Jul 1941. He returned to Australia on 3 Jun 1942 and transferred to 16th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 4 Jan 1943, then to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 1 Mar 1943. He was promoted Corporal on 15 May 1943 and joined the 2/2nd same day. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea as a Corporal aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 2 Feb 1945 and reorganization, he embarked for New Britain aboard “TAROONA” on 9 Apr 1945 with the unit as a Lance Sergeant in Ordnance Sect of Headquarters Group. Len returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 15 Sept 1945 and was discharged on 23 Oct 1945. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.

    Hugh BROWN

    Hugh joined 13th Army Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, 19 Mar 1941 and embarked for the Middle East on 1 Sept 1941. He embarked for Australia on 20 Mar 1942. He transferred to 1st Australian Commando Training Battalion on 25 Feb 1943 and joined the 2/2nd on 15 May 1943. He embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in No 5 Section, "B" Troop. Doig's book, has the following, "On 22 Oct 1943, Lt Doig and No 5 Section were ordered to patrol towards Mataloi III, in the RAMU Valley, New Guinea. On the 25 Oct 1943, they reached Orguruni Village and came under intense fire from 15 yards (13.5 Mtrs). When Private Hughie Brown, the Section Bren Gunner, was killed by a sniper, Private Mitchell took over the Bren Gun and became a victim of the same sniper." He was Killed in Action, 25 Oct 1943. He is commemorated on Panel 1, LAE MEMORIAL, New Guinea. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45.

    Keith COLLESS

    Keith was a member of the First Reinforcements that arrive at Dilli, Timor, aboard M.V. “Koolama”, on 22 Jan 1942, prior to the Japanese landing. He joined the unit as a Private. After the campaign on Timor, he embarked with the unit, for Australia aboard the Royal Dutch destroyer “Tjerk Hides” on 11 Dec 1942. He was Discharged on 4 Jul 1946. He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
