Operating "Winnie the War Winner" L to R VX50708 Signaller Keith Richards, TX4745 Signaller Max Loveless. NX67365 Platoon Sergeant, Signals, Francis Press. Sadly, Keith died from complications after dental work on 3 Feb 1943 and is buried at Adelaide River Cemetery. NT. Both Max and Francis were Mentioned in Despatches for Timor

Trooper NX49475 John Alexander KEENAHAN. First reinforcement soldier, served on Timor where he was Mentioned in Despatches for Gallant and Distinguished Service, then served on New Guinea and New Britain. He is armed with the Australian designed and manufactured OWEN Sub-machine Gun. FAITA New Guinea.

Hi Hugh Sorry I missed your post, the computer usually notifies me of posts but not this time. There are a few books available regards the 2/2 but I don't know about the 2/8. What a Joke. Never knew the RAAF had such super HIGH STANDARDS. They rejected Jerry Haire as not being fit enough. Thank God they did, as the unit would have lost the service of a very capable Commando and the Australian Army, a very capable Officer. Jerry was Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette, 25 May 1943 for his Gallant and Distinguished service on Timor. Plus Jerry was 5 foot 11 inches (185cm) so may have been too tall for a pilot seat.
