Philip (Gerry) enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Reserves) on 16 Sept 1940 and posted to Signals Western Command. He transferred to the A.I.F. on 15 Jan 1941 and was an original member of the unit. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 10 Nov 1941 and embarked aboard “ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Signaller in Signals Section, Headquarters Group. He was seriously Wounded in Action whilst attached to “C” Platoon in Mar 1942 and evacuated by seaplane on 24 May 1942. He reverted to Private on 19 Apr 1943 and was discharged after recovery in hospital on 14 Jul 1944.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
Philip was made a Life Member of the Association in 1972 and awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia on 26 Jan 1987.
