Prior to joining the unit Peter served in 28th Battalion and 24th Anti Tank and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 7 Section, “C” Platoon.
During the first landing of the Japanese on Timor, on the 20 Feb 1942, he was on the ration truck with some other members of No 7 Section, when it was caught in an ambush. Peter was then taken Prisoner of War and later served on the Burma Railway.
He embarked for Sydney from Singapore on 19 Sept 1945 aboard "DUNTROON", arriving on 7 Oct 1945 and after some time recuperating, was discharged on 27 Feb 1946.
The Japanese Instructions for POWs is from Peter.
Peter was made a Life Member of the Association in 2001.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He maybe entitled to an Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp.
