Leslie enlisted on 9 May 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 9 Sect, “C” Platoon. After his campaign on Timor, he was medevac'd at “Suai” for Darwin aboard “KURU” on 8 Sept 1942.
After numerous medical treatments and postings within Australia, he flew to LAE, New Guinea on 8 May 1945 with 2/1st Australian Guard Regiment and returned to Australia aboard "TAROONA" on 5 Nov 1945. He was discharged on 30 Nov 1945.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
