Edward Henderson CRAGHILL

Edward enlisted on 29 Apr 1941 and was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Private in No 4 Sect, “B” Platoon. Edward was very badly wounded in the Left Shoulder, Left ear during 4 Section's first action with the Japs. According to Doig's Unit History P60  Eddie "who was manning an O.P. some hundred yards further up the ridge, busily engaged the Japs on his own while the Section was engaged below. The Jap support weapons, mortars and heavy M.G's concentrated on Eddie's position, thinking it was part of the defence" . He was med evacuated from Timor by Seaplane on 24 May 1942.

He was discharged on 5 Dec 1942.

He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
