  • William Charles Douglas VEALE

    William served as a Sapper in 5th Field Company Engineers in WW1 from 14 Feb 1916 and was awarded a Distinguish Conduct Medal and promoted to Lieutenant and awarded a Military Cross, discharged 2 Mar 1920. He was awarded an Efficiency Decoration between the Wars for service in 10th Battalion in Citizen Military Force (Reserves). He enlisted in the A.I.F. on 2 Jul 1940 and appointed Temporary Colonel on 6 Oct 1941. He was appointed Temporary Brigadier and posted to Headquarters, Sparrow Force on 12 Feb 1942. He joined the unit on Timor from Headquarters, Sparrow Force, after the fall of Koepang, approx March 1942. He embarked for Australia on 30 May 1942 and had numerous postings during WW2, being Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette dated 17 Jul 1945.

    He was discharged on 24 Apr 1946.
