Albert enlisted on 8 Feb 1943 and was posted to 2nd Armoured Corps Training Regiment on 11 Feb 1943 as a signaller and then to 2/7th Australian Cavalry Commando Regiment for training on 24 Sept 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard "GORGON" on 7 Jan 1944 and joined the unit as a Signalman in the Signals Section, Headquarters Group on 24 Jan 1944 and returned to Australia with them aboard “TAROONA” on 3 Sept 1944.
He transferred to 5th Australian Cypher Section on 11 Jan 1945 and then to Land Headquarters Cipher Section on 9 Feb 1945, then "B" Detachment, 3rd Australian Cipher Section, Attached to 3rd Australian Infantry Brigade Signals Section and embarked for MOTORAI aboard "SEA BARB" on 16 Jun 1945. He was promoted Corporal on 29 Jul 1945, embarked for AMBON aboard "WESTRALIA" on 25 Sept 1945, enplaned to Australia on 22 Nov 1945 and was discharged on 18 Jan 1946.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below. He is now also entitled to the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with a clasp "S.W.Pacific".
