Lloyd (AKA Peter) enlisted in the Citizens Military Forces (Reserves) on 8 Nov 1939 and was posted to 27th Battery, 7th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA). He was appointed Acting Lance Bombardier on 20 Nov 1941, transferred to the A.I.F. on 24 Oct 1941 and and transferred to 19th Field Regiment RAA on 4 Apr 1942. He reverted to Gunner at his own request on 10 Sept 1942 and was posted to Guerrilla Warfare School, Foster on 28 Sept 1942.
He joined the 2/2nd in Darwin on 25 Dec 1942 and embarked with the unit for New Guinea aboard “DUNTROON” on 17 Jun 1943 as a Trooper in the Transport Section, Headquarters group. As the unit had no transport, the Transport Sect was used as another Troop and shared the identical responsibilities of the other sections in the way of patrols..
Unfortunately, Lloyd was Accidently Killed at FAITA, New Guinea on 12 Nov 1943.
He is commemorated at LAE WAR CEMETERY, F. B. 10., Papua New Guinea
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
