I spent many hours talking with Col about East Timor. When I told him Murray Thornton (my brother) and I were headed to East Timor in 1995, he gave me the book Mai Kolia Tetum. Murray and I were going to follow the 2/2 Commandos path, albeit in Indonesia/East Timor. He was a great and compassionate man.

Sheree Hart, 'Doc' Wheatley's granddaughter, will deliver the address at the Commemoration Service on November 21, 2021. My father's Kriadu, Nicolau Goncalves, visited Australia in 1968 and stayed with our family; our family is still in contact with the Goncalves family. In the year 2000, my brother Murray and Nicolau's son, Januario Goncalves, worked together to help rebuild Timor Lorosae. The sons of two men who fought alongside each other in 1942 are now working together to rebuild Timor Lorosae. In 1995, Murray and I also met Louis Gon Zaga in Bazartete . Louis was the carpenter who worked with the 2/2 Commando's 4 section.

The criteria for eligibility for membership of the association have recently been expanded. If you would like to join the association, you will soon be able to via the “Members” tab above. The AGM will be held at 5.30pm on 8 July 2015 at Crossing Family Lawyers Suite 35, 18 Stirling Highway, Nedlands (NB: As the door downstairs is likely to be closed, call 6355 5265 and someone will let you in) The agenda can be downloaded here.
