William (Scotty) was an original member of the unit, embarking aboard “S.S. ZEALANDIA” on 8 Dec 1941 for Timor as a Corporal in No 8 Section, “C” Platoon. He was Wounded in Action on Timor, date unknown. He embarked for Australia at “Betano” aboard “KURU” on 16 Nov 1942.
He was commissioned Lieutenant on 22 May 1943. He embarked for New Guinea aboard “KATOOMBA” on 26 Nov 1943 and posted to 2/6th Commando Squadron on 27 Nov 1943. He returned to Australia with them aboard “KATOOMBA” on 12 May 1944 and embarked for MOROTAI aboard Landing Ship Troops (LST) 1016 on 27 May 1945. He then embarked for BALAKPAPAN aboard LST 454 on 22 Jun 1945 and emplaned for MOROTAI on 18 Sept 1945 and returned to Australia on 23 Sept 1945.
Transferred to Marrinup P.O.W. Camp on 29 Nov 1945 and was discharged on 28 Jun 1946.
He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939-45, pictured below.
